Anger is an emotion that is neither good or bad. In fact it is your quiet friend that makes you aware that you feel disrespected, undervalued, unappreciated, ignored or taken advantage of. Instead of choosing to act in away that is negative, pause and ask yourself what emotion is truly driving the anger response? Once you understand that emotion, address it directly with honesty and a sense of calm to reclaim that part of your mental and emotional well-being that feels disregarded or compromised. Anger does not have to be explosive but instead can an elevation of self-awareness.

Success and Failure have a delicate balance. Failure can drive success when you understand, setbacks, challenges and obstacles are part of the growth process. Success can provide the insight into the purpose of failure when one is willing to accept the adversity they fought through and persevered to be successful. Courage is the ability to face the fears that both success and failure can bring when reaching beyond one’s dreams and actualizing goals!

Healing can not truly begin until you can learn to promote your emotional and mental well-being as a priority. It is nearly impossible and without question extremely difficult to try to cultivate your happiness if everyone in your life needs and wants always come before your. Be sure that the sacrifices you make for others truly are worth the effort you invest in other.

The company you keep and the environments you move in either facilitate or stunt your growth. Be aware of your surroundings and the activities that are happening in them. If the energy is negative, if your feel unappreciated or disrespected…Ask yourself why am I here? If you find the answers are more about the benefit of others but are a detriment to you…You are not standing in a circle of support and love but rather a cage of disappointment, pain and anger. Self love is about freeing your mind, body and soul to experience emotional and mental growth and sometime physical healing from sickness due to stress.

Understand patience is required for the changes you seek, they will not happen overnight . If it took a lifetime to fall apart , then life needs time to truly heal. 5.) Honesty with what caused your hurt and pain and what , if at all , accountability and responsibility on a personal level needs to be considered and 6.) Prepare for the consequence of your decision to work on healing that people in your life may not accept or may give resistance to your change.

The Story of the Cracked Pot

“A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master’s house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years, this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master’s house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. ‘I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you.’

The bearer asked, ‘Why? What are you ashamed of?’

The pot replied, ‘For these past two years I am able to deliver only half of my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master’s house. Because of my flaws, you don’t get full value for your efforts.’

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion, he said, ‘As we return to the master’s house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path.’

As they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it somewhat. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure.

The bearer said to the pot, ‘Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you’ve watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master’s table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house.’” Author Unknown

Trust is given to someone because their character, as you know it, dictates it is worthy of it. Ask yourself how often have you trusted someone only to discover they were not worthy of it and you knowingly had ignored many red flags or concerns before you took the leap of faith. Life is challenging. You have to ask yourself  a hard question, a serious and real question. Is the time, energy and effort that you are putting into your life, is it honestly focused on addressing the problems you are experiencing or masking issues under the guise that you are working towards change?

When looking to make a change in your life,  you should seek to create outcomes that are linked to authentic efficacy, not actions that only yield short term results. When you intentionally focus on dealing with an issue in the moment, specifically with behavior that is avoidant and does not address the real issue at hand, you are activating self sabotage. 

If you find yourself putting forth the time, energy, and effort, and the outcomes of those actions are not creating the true change that you need; you have to stop and ask yourself the question are you honestly addressing the issue at hand? More importantly, are you acting in a way that can create not only a short term result, but a long term change; even if it requires small steps in the effort. Short term results should be small steps toward a long term change not momentary gratification that fades away over time revealing the issue is still under the surface and has been left unresolved.

Often when utilizing boundaries, criticism and chaos can ensue due to a lack of understanding and respecting their purpose. Choosing to create and utilize boundaries is a means of protecting yourself based on principles you value and have chosen to live by. Boundaries DO NOT require others to validate or agree with them, only respect them. When you are faced with a person or situation that does not respect and refuses to adhere to them you must proactively chose to protect yourself by asking a key question, should this person or situation be present in my life, (ecosystem, see previous day post) after refuting or refusing to acknowledge what matters to me, in regards to, my mental and emotional wellbeing???

Self Love and Self Care involves creating and maintaining healthy emotional and mental ecosystems for yourself. YOUR ecosystem is your unique and personal interactions with others and your environments that impact and influence you mentally and emotionally. When you think of your ecosystem, how do you maintain and protect it? or do you? One key way to maintain and protect it is to inventory the people in your life. Are they toxic? Are they supportive? Are they nurturing? Are they a distraction? What about your environments ( ie Home, Work, Family units, Friend groups), are they a place of peace and tranquility most of the time? or Are they stressful and chaotic? Understanding your ecosystem will help you begin to understand how to create and protect them. The first step is evaluating how they are impacting you. Start with evaluating the people in your life and determined if they are providing value or destruction to your ecosystem.
